WE HAVE AN EAR FOR GAMES.

Voiceover Technique for Video Games

Games are a different medium with their own demands.

Unlike animation and other forms of entertainment media, games are interactive.  Do you know what the dialogue is really saying to the player?  The most important quality a voice actor can offer a producer?  Why the words “authentic dialect” on a breakdown don’t mean “authentic dialect?”

Games industry veteran Zach Hanks is a director, casting director, and working voice actor with extensive experience on both sides of the glass.

Hello. Meet your bridge.

Having worked on over 70 games, Zach is uniquely positioned to understand the special requirements of game dialogue from the perspective of both producer and voice artist.  He’s a perfect bridge between these two worlds, and his passion for voicing games is contagious.

“I've worked with Zach both as an actor and as a studio owner and I can't think of anyone who's more qualified to teach ‘the real story’ of video game voice acting!”

- Marc Graue, Voice Actor & Owner of Marc Graue Voice Over Studios

“Zach Hanks is the consummate all-around voice acting professional.  As an actor, he brings to the table unsurpassed knowledge, skill, and commitment to craft; as a director, he adds terrific instincts, an ability to quickly suss out each individual actor’s working vocabulary...I can’t imagine a better introduction to the world of VO than his class.”

– Tom Abernathy, writer, Microsoft Game Studios ( Halo: Reach)

“Zach is an incredible actor and performer. His experience in front and behind the microphone gives him invaluable insight and perspective on the needs of the client and the needs of the engineer. Zach is the perfect conduit for the game production process.”

Keith Arem, Creative Director, PCB Productions

“As an instructor, Zach is clear, to the point, creative, passionate, and fun! He knows what is going on in our game business since he works in it as a director and actor!”

– Hope Levy, Voice Actress and Owner of Voice Actors Network

“Working with Zach is a real pleasure;  he has a keen ear for where a voice actor's performance needs to go to get the most from the character.  As an actor himself, he intuitively understands how to direct you in the booth, and also when to give you leave to trust your own instincts.  If Zach is teaching video game voice acting, I'd say jump on board, because this guy has done it all."”

–James Horan, Voice Actor

“You know how they say, '’Those who can't do, teach'?’ Well, Zach blows that one all to hell. He's one of the working-est actors I know-- and added to the fact that he's got years of directing VO for some of the biggest video game titles out there, why would you study this with anyone else? He's got all the bases covered, and he'll make sure that by the time you leave, you will too.”

Yuri Lowenthal, Voice Actor
